Trestles and Ice Cream

About this event

Join us for a relaxed backroads run through western Washington County as we seek out two classic wooden railroad trestles—and actually drive through—and cap the day with a sweet stop at Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream. This route is all about scenic roads, great photos, and a little local history (with plenty of time to socialize along the way).

The Trestles
Holcomb Creek Trestle
Our headline feature is the Holcomb Road Trestle—the longest (1168 feet) still-
operating trestle in the United States. We’ll plan a safe pull-off nearby for photos and to appreciate the scale of this impressive wooden structure before continuing our drive.

Drive-through trestle
On Helvetia Road, we drive though a short trestle on the same rail line—one of those
uniquely Pacific Northwest experiences that makes for great rolling photos. We’ll keep
speeds low, maintain spacing, and follow the lead car’s directions so everyone gets
through smoothly and safely.

Buxton Trestle (short walk)
For anyone who wants a closer look, we’ll make a stop at the Buxton trestle where a
short walk lets us see the structure more thoroughly. It’s a great chance to stretch your legs, trade stories, and get those up-close detail shots of the timberwork (please stay mindful of footing and any posted signs).

Final stop: Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream
After the trestle tour, we’ll roll into Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream to cool down and
debrief the day. Plan on a relaxed finish—order your favorite scoop, compare photos,
and enjoy some low-key club time before heading home.

RSVP and reminders: Please arrive with a full tank, and empty bladder, and a clipboard and pen. We’ll drive courteously, obey all posted speeds, and keep the group tight but safe. Route lead: Bob and Donna McNabb | Contact: 503-936-6137. Let us know you are coming on the webisite.
